UDW HOME PAGE

Welcome to the Website of the UDW. One of Britain’s Newest Trade Unions.
A Union for UK Workers.

The UDW is proud to represent its members in workplaces all over the far reaches of the United Kingdom from London to Glasgow. Originally set up for workers in DHL and the home delivery industry, the UDW has been approached by and signed up many workers in an increasing number of workplaces including call centres, public services and small businesses where many workers thought they had no rights.

The UDW prides itself on being totally self funding and operates seven days a week 365 days a year. You can contact us at any time if you are seeking advice, support or workplace representation.

We are not affiliated to political groups nor do we hold lavish conferences. The UDW is registered as a trade union with the Certification Officer. Our ethic and practice is simple straight forward workplace representation. So if you or any of your family, friends or colleagues finds yourselves in a difficult situation at work don’t hesitate to give any of the UDW’s representatives a call.

Under the employment right at work act 1999 every worker in the UK regardless of their length of service with an employer is entitled to be accompanied to any formal meeting with their employer. This could be a disciplinary or grievance hearing. Or you could have been selected for redundancy or a change of contract. Either way it is vital that you exercise your right to be represented. Some unscrupulous employers will attempt to deny you those rights claiming that they don’t recognise trade unions or that they will only deal with certain trade unions. This is untrue and unlawful. If you are in any doubt please do contact us!

Many workers approach advisory services such as ACAS or the Citizens Advice Bureau. Organisations such as these will give good advice to a worker in difficulty but they are unable to provide the real time representation that the worker needs. Often the advice will be to locate a solicitor that may (or may not) take their case on.
All this can be very stressful, costly and time consuming for someone who simply wants the problem resolved.

Let’s face it….with the best of intentions at some point you may find yourself in a difficult situation that you have no control or influence over. You may have upset your employer through no fault of your own. You may have accidentally broken one of the many rules that govern workplaces these days. Or perhaps your employer has decided to change your contract of employment resulting in longer hours, less pay, more demands or has simply taken a dislike to you.

We will provide you with actual accompanying representation to any meetings with your employer including disciplinary and grievance hearings…no matter where you work or how serious the issues are.
